wm TIP: ELIMINATING KILLER STATEMENTS
Do your wm team meetings, and interpersonal
interactions lift up or put down others. You may
want to lead your team in this simple team building
activity. As a group, brainstorm all the words and
phrases that you and others use to put down and
criticize others. Next, discuss the following:
1.Which killer statements particularly hurt you?
2.How do you feel when you launch a killer
statement at someone?
3.When do these killer statements typically come?
(under stressful conditions; behind other's back)
4.If no one on our wm team made a killer statement
for the next month, what would happen?
5.What would be the costs and benefits of a ban on
killer statements?

To follow up, ask your team members to listen for
any killer statements they hear at home, work, or
anywhere. Instruct them to jot down these put
downs. Remind them to include the ones they catch
themselves saying.

FOR SPEAKERS: AN ILLUSTRATION
ABOUT…
Courage: Courage...A woman and her husband
interrupted their vacation to go to a dentist. "I
want a tooth pulled, and I don’t want Novocain
because I’m in a big hurry," the woman said. "Just
extract the tooth as quickly as possible, and we’ll be
on our way." The dentist was quite impressed.
"You’re certainly a courageous woman," he said.
"Which tooth is it?" The woman turned to her
husband and said, "Show him your tooth, dear."

wmTip: BETH MOORE ON LEADING
WOMEN'S SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDIES

Many times leading a women’s Bible study or small
group can be frustrating for the leader. Many factors
create distractions which may lead to the group’s
disinterest in the study. Beth Moore gives a few
suggestions on how to maintain interest and
excitement when administrating your group:

“Women want organization! Women have
very little time in our present culture. When they
give the precious resource of their personal
time, it is undoubtedly at the sacrifice of something
else. They want to know a program has been well-
planned and that their time will be used wisely.”

“Women who register for in-depth Bible study want
the greater emphasis to remain on the Bible study. In
other words, during discussion time, they are more
interested in what God has to say and the response
of the women to His Word that they are in
haphazard opinions. The effective leader will help
keep discussions focused on the responses of the
women to God’s Word.”

“Women seem to want well-respected guidelines
rather than stringent restrictions about who can
attend and what they can share. An effective leader
must make the class aware that if guidelines are
respected, there will be no need for stringent
restrictions.”

Women want to feel connected to their small group.
They want to meet other members. They want to
know they were missed when they were absent.
They want to know they had something to add when
they were present.
